Visakhapatnam: The possibility of increasing exports through Visakhapatnam International Airport should be considered by all stakeholders by making use of the existing amenities, MP Kambhampati Haribabu has said.
The possibility of increasing exports through Visakhapatnam International Airport should be considered by all stakeholders by making use of the existing amenities, MP Kambhampati Haribabu has said.
He was speaking at an interactive meeting on: “Promotion of international cargo facilities from Visakhapatnam Airport”, organised by the AP Chambers here on Monday.
Mr. Haribabu said he would talk to the managements of the pharma companies, many of which have their head offices in Hyderabad, to consider routing their products manufactured in the city, through Vizag Airport.
City already has direct flights to Dubai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Sri Lanka. He appealed to all airline operators to ensure that the tariff for cargo exporters was the same from Vizag as that of Hyderabad and other cities. The price competitiveness would attract more exporters.
The MP said: “Vizag Airport has six parking bays and I wrote to all airline managements to explore the possibility of parking their flights in Vizag to facilitate late night arrivals and early morning departures from Vizag. Only Trujet expressed its readiness to park one ATR flight and start operations from Vizag soon.”
He said the airport authorities were ready to offer free parking to airline operators for sometime. He called upon airline operators to utilise the opportunity. The tax on aviation fuel in AP was the lowest in India, which was also advantageous to operators.
