For international tourists, the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) was the second most preferred airport in South India to disembark during Christmas holiday season (December 2017). About 5.33% of total foreign tourists who arrived in India during the month of December landed at KIA.
According to the Ministry of Tourism monthly estimates of Foreign Tourist Arrivals, the Delhi airport with 25.80% tourists recorded the highest percentage share of foreign tourist arrivals in India followed by Mumbai. Among South Indian airports (Chennai, Dabolim-Goa, Kochi, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Trichy) only Chennai, with 6.36%, tourists fared better than Bengaluru.
Though KIA’s percentage share of foreign tourist arrivals during December 2017 saw a minor dip compared to December 2016 (5.43%) the airport overtook the Dabolim airport in Goa among South Indian airports.
During December 2016, 5.64 % tourists arrived at Dabolim airport making it the second most preferred airport in South India. However during December 2017 about 5.29% arrived at the Dabolim airport, pushing it to the third spot. As per the Ministry of Tourism figures during the month of December 2017, a total of 2.41 lakh foreign tourists arrived on e-Tourist Visa.
