A nose wheel of an Indian SpiceJet flight caught fire at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today.
All the 74 passengers and four pilots and crew were evacuated safely from the Kolkata-bound flight, Wahidur Rahman, deputy director (air traffic) at the airport, told The Daily Star.
The accident took place when the aircraft of India-based airline was heading towards runway from taxiway for taking off at 10:40am.
As the fire caught at the aircraft’s nose wheel, the pilot aborted its take off, Wahidur said, adding that fire fighters immediately rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
After visiting the affected aircraft, it seemed to them that bearing of the wheel might break up causing fire at the wheel, Wahidur also said.
The passengers, pilots and crews were staying at the airport till last reported.
