Vijayawada: West Assembly constituency MLA Jaleel Khan said measures were taken up to operate direct flights from Gannavaram Airport to Mecca, Saudi Arabia for the convenience of Haj pilgrims who travel from Amaravati region and other Coastal districts.
He presided over the Minorities Welfare Day and National Education Day observed here on Saturday to mark the birth anniversary of the first education minister of Independent India and freedom fighter Moulana Abul Kalam Azad.
Addressing a gathering, MLA Jaleel Khan said that the state government is making efforts to operate direct flights from Gannavaram Airport to Mecca for the Haj pilgrims. He said the state government sanctioned Rs 15 crore for the construction of Shadi Khana and allotted land for the construction of Urdu Medium Junior Government College near Kabela Centre.
