Chennai: Bogged down by delays and lack of slots for more flights at peak hours, Chennai airport is planning to introduce a green initiative called Airport Collaborative Decision Making (ACDM) to cut delays by using parking stands, taxiways, runways, airspace in an efficient manner. The system will be in place in three to six months.
Agencies like airlines, groundhandlers, airport staff, air traffic controllers, apron controllers, terminal staff and others working at the airport will work in close coordination to ensure that planes that touch down at the airport get parking stands, aerobridges, shuttle buses, baggage conveyors as soon as possible and without hassles so that the aircraft can be made ready faster for its next trip.
This means that planes need not have to wait in queues for their turn for take off nor wait for their turn for a parking stand. The time saved can be used to accomodate more flights.
A senior official of Airports Authority of India (AAI) said, "The project has received approval and is expected to be implemented in three months to six months."
