Chennai: While Chennai ranked third among the airports in the country in attracting the highest number of foreign tourists, the airport in Trichy also figured on the list with nearly 2%.
The Union tourism ministry compiles the monthly estimates of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) and international travellers visiting India through e-tourist visa with data received from the Bureau of Immigration.
According to an official statement, the airport in New Delhi topped the list with 26.99%, followed by Mumbai airport with 15.49%.
The statement further said that Chennai airport recorded arrival of 8.9% of foreign travellers on e-tourist visa in August.
