New Delhi: Big airport operators and airlines will now have to provide small trolleys to carry hand bags from post security-check to distant boarding gates for all passengers. And they will have to provide golf carts free of cost to flyers who are unable to or find it difficult to walk to the boarding gates.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a series of passengerfriendly rules for airlines and airport operators to improve passenger experience at airports, apart from issuing a set of instructions to cut flight delays. DGCA chief B S Bhullar's order on "Facilities Courtesies to esteemed travelling public at airports" admits that passengers face difficulties and that these must be resolved.
"With the expansion of airports, distances to checkin counters, security hold area and boarding gate have increased manifold requiring passengers lugging their carry-on baggage to cover long distances... Most stakeholders involved in providing facilities to passengers at airports have resorted to outsourcing services to vendors having high attrition rate, resulting in inability to provide quality service to the passengers. Further, passengers remain mostly unattended after check-in till they arrive at the boarding point," Bhullar's order says.
