Salem: The public and the members of trade and industry have pleaded for a direct flight connection from Salem to Chennai. At present, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has provided licence to the Air Odisha to operate its flight from Chennai to Bengaluru with two stopping at Puducherry and Salem.
Reaching Chennai from Salem after a stopover at Puducherry will be a roundabout route and will prove wastage of time, the local people feel.
K. Mariappan, president, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Salem), is of the view that the airline will not be able attract much patronage if it is operated via Puducherry. Only a direct flight from Salem to Chennai will prove a viable one in attracting more passengers, he says. Mr. Mariappan said he has already taken up the matter with the Ministry of Civil Aviation in this regard.
