Pune: Civil aviation minister Jayant Sinha on Saturday directed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials to improve passenger facilities and operational capacity of the Lohegaon airport, handling close to 60 lakh flyers annually.
Sinha visited the airport to review various services and discussed scope for improvements, including the condition of airport washrooms, with the officials. MP Anil Shirole, heading the Pune Airport Advisory Committee, took the minister around the facility. Airport director Ajay Kumar and other officials accompanied them.
Sinha later tweeted, "Detailed review of #Pune airport - reviewed facilities for passengers and discussed scope for improvements."
Responding to specific complaints about the poor condition of toilets inside the airport highlighted by the social media users, Sinha retweeted, "I visited all the facilities, including the toilets. We have noted all the issues and will be following up."
Providing more details about the visit of the minister, airport director Ajay Kumar told TOI, "The minister expressed serious concern over the size of the airport and suggested short, medium and long-term actions to improve its operational capacity. He inspected all the facilities, including the toilets, personally and offered suggestions. We also took him for a review of the upcoming services and the site of the new airport."
