Trying to capitalise on the lean air travel season of August and September, India's airlines have cut prices by up to 30 percent for the months.
The price reduction, which has lead to an airfare war, the Mint noted, was started by Jet Airways on Wednesday. Soon GoAir and IndiGo have matched up the price to Jet Airways' offer.
With booking period mostly confined to July 29, Jet Airways indicated the travel period could be anytime after Aug. 15. Indigo noted that the travel offer would be applicable to flights between Aug. 9 and Sept. 30.
A quick search on travel portal Cleartrip revealed the cheapest fare from Bengaluru to New Delhi was priced at Rs. 2,499 on a Jet Airways flight. Indigo's fare was Rs. 2,537 and Go Air charged Rs. 3,393, which remained the least charged by the airline.
The cheapest fare for Delhi-Mumbai travel during the two-month period across all the three airlines hovered between Rs. 2,681 to Rs. 2,688. Including free meals, Jet Airways priced its tickets Rs. 80 more. Fares for the same route booked a week in advance in 2015 was charged anywhere between Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 6,000, according to the news daily.
