Thiruvananthapuram: Maintenance Training Organization (MTO), the training wing of Air India Engineering Services Limited (AIESL) owned by Air India Ltd is all set to be launched in the city. The fifth MTO in the country, which will impart 'type' aircraft and engine training, will be inaugurated on July 25.
The institute has received approval from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for training programme in July 1 after meeting the requirements for a MTO as per civil aviation requirements (CAR) 147, approved training and examination organization. AIESL has roped in Paul Russel, who has an experience of above 25 years with Air India, as the training manager and chief knowledge examiner of the MTO.
"The decision to establish an MTO in the city was taken after considering the enthusiasm and potential of youth in the state interested in aircraft maintenance. The institute will help in bridging the huge gap between the demand for licenced engineers as there is a tremendous shortage," said AIESL CEO H R Jagannath.
The unique feature of the institute is the 'type training' in both Boeing aircraft and A-320 Airbus family.
