Air connectivity to Jaipur, Rajasthan, from here will soon be a reality with Indigo planning to launch a flight en route to the national capital in October. Indigo has placed request to Air Bus to procure an aircraft for the purpose.
"The flight will serve two purposes. Since it will go to Jaipur having a stoppage in Delhi, passengers get another flight to Delhi. Those who will go to Jaipur, won't have to alight from the plane," said airport director R Mahalingam.
He said that Jaipur operation is being delayed because the Air Bus is yet to provide the aircraft to the carrier. According to my discussion with the carrier, the Air Bus is likely to provide the aircraft by September, he added. "A month ago, Indigo evinced interest to run four more flights from here. However, the destinations to which it will fly were not decided. Once the carrier gets its aircraft, it will ask for approval of schedule," said an airport official.
In March 2015, Indigo evinced interest to use one of its flights to go to an international destination from here. The civil aviation ministry had asked the airport authorities to negotiate with domestic carriers for international operation. Twelve flights of Indigo are currently operating from here.
