Dubai's Emirates Airline, United Arab Emirates's Etihad Airways PJSC and Doha's Qatar Airways all are lining up, their best aircraft in tow, to participate in the 5th edition of India Aviation 2016, an indication of the importance of the Indian market to these airlines.
This is the first time all these airlines have been present at the show.
The five-day show will be held at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad, from 16-20 March.
Emirates Airline is showcasing its flagship carrier--the largest ever built civilian airplane Airbus A380. This is being specially flown in for the event and select attendees will get a private tour of the impressive first, business and economy class of the double-decker aircraft.
Qatar Airways is exhibiting its Airbus A350 new-generation jetliner. Qatar Airways was the global launch customer of the big and beautiful A350 and currently operates seven aircraft with regular commercial service to Frankfurt, Munich, Singapore and Philadelphia.
Etihad Airways is showcasing two of its newest aircraft--a Boeing 787 passenger jet and Boeing 777 freighter. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, one of five in the airline's fleet, will be joined by a freighter on static display during the event attended by key government and aviation industry stakeholders from India and around the world.
The Gulf airlines collectively operate more international flights out of India than the country's state-owned airline Air India Ltd. Qatar Airways flies to 12 cities in India, the most by any Gulf airline. This means you can catch a Qatar Airways flight from any of these cities to a variety of international destinations, including the US, via the airline's hub in Doha. Emirates flies to 10 cities in India from its Dubai hub.
In 2013, Etihad Airways purchased a 24% stake in Jet Airways (India) Ltd, India's second largest airline by passengers carried. India is one of Etihad Airways' key markets with 175 scheduled passenger flights each week being operated across 11 cities from the airline's Abu Dhabi hub. With strategic Indian partner Jet Airways, Etihad Airways has a combined 254 weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and 15 cities across India. Together, both carriers are the largest international operators of scheduled flights to and from India, with a 20% market share.
