Hyderabad: Confident about the immense potential of civil aviation and rising air traffic in India, Malaysian low-cost airline Air Asia is keen on expanding its presence and connect more destination.
Speaking on the sidelines of India Aviation 2016 that started here on Wednesday, Air Asia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said that they planned to explore flying on new routes in the country. “We will soon add two A 330 planes to our existing fleet of six aircraft”, he said, adding that 5/20 rule of Government of India was hurdle for the growth of the sector.
The airline that has a strategic partnership with Tata Sons here, is keen on the Indian market and is of the opinion that Government should reconsider the 5/20 rule, according to which only those Indian airlines that have a fleet strength of 20 aircraft and show a minimum operations of five years could fly abroad.
Mr. Tony Fernandes reiterated that the request to Government seeking to reconsider the rule for the aviation sector and that only if it was relaxed, the number of flights would increase largely.
