A technical team of GoAir, which visited Surat airport on Friday, came out impressed with the state-of-the-art facilities available for smooth operations of its air services and with the airport's development in the last one-and-a-half-years. The four-member team led by GoAir vice-president Kamal Kikani and general manager (operations) Shivanand Naik met members of airport associations and the airport director to discuss possible routes of operations from Surat.
Surat Airport Action Committee (SAAC) convener Sanjay Ezhava told TOI, "We have been urging GoAir authorities for the last several months to visit Surat airport. The team members were impressed with the airport infrastructure. They have invited us to Mumbai headquarters to discuss potential routes from Surat."
Ezhava added, "There is huge potential for Surat-Mumbai and Surat-Bangalore flight services. A detailed presentation was given to GoAir team members regarding air traffic. They are convinced and will work out something positive in the interest of Surti fliers. GoAir has reportedly ordered 10 new aircraft. The company can divert a couple of them to operate on the Mumbai-Surat route."
