Yet Another Aerobridge to Make Things Easier

Thiruvananthapuram: Trivandrum International Airport will get an additional aerobridge that will help passengers to quickly disembark from the landing aircraft.

At present, there are only three aerobridges at the international terminal facing the city side and two on the domestic side facing Shangumugham. According to the airport director, George G Tharakan, an additional aerobridge will help the aircraft avoid the rush during peak hours.

Work on the 77 m-long jet bridge will be completed by October this year.

The aerobridge contract was awarded for Rs 20 crore. The Trivandrum airport has a total of 120 flight movements, including 80 scheduled ones.  Besides, there are 200 overflying aircraft. “The traffic is growing at a healthy 10 per cent growth, mainly on the international flights,” said Tharakan.

As the airport facilities have not expanded with the number of aircraft, often flights have to wait for their turn to get the aerobridge, to the annoyance of aircraft commanders.
