Surat: Textile businessman Ashok Kanugo had his worst-ever flight experience on Tuesday night. Kanugo, who is also the the secretary of Surat Traffic Welfare Trust, was scheduled to return to the city by Air India's Delhi-Surat at 7 pm on Wednesday. However, the flight was delayed by nearly two hours at the Delhi airort. When they boarded AI airbus 320, around 150 passengers were made to sit for another two hours before being shifted to another aircraft.
"We were told that the engine had failed thrice on the runway. It was then announced that there is some problem in the engine and a mechanical team would fix the glitch in 15-20 minutes," said Kanugo. After repeated attempts to repair the engine problem failed, the passengers were shifted to another aircraft at 10.45 pm and reached Surat well past midnight.
The Delhi-bound passengers from Surat, who were to board the return flight at 7:30 pm, had an excruciating wait till 12.30 after midnight.
But this was not an one-off bitter experience for frequent fliers from Surat.
All the euphoria of Surat getting a daily Delhi flight in October 2015 has died down with the flights seldom landing on time. On an average, the flight is at least two hours late.
