New Delhi: Market-specific cargo facilities would be developed at major airports and commercially important centres of the country, civil aviation secretary Ajay Prasad told FE. The government is currently focusing on developing Nagpur as an air cargo hub.
“Besides developing an integrated cargo hub in Nagpur, upgradation of cargo facilities at the Kolkata airport is almost completed,” Prasad said.
A committee for the development of cargo facilities in the country, headed by Ajay Prasad, is examining the procedures and required structures needed to develop cargo terminals. The airport at Amritsar, for example, will have cargo facilities specially designed to handle perishable goods, while the durables manufacturing industrial centres will have cargo terminals suited to their requirements.
