Chinese cargo airline with plans for India suspends operations

Beijing: A Chinese cargo airline said Friday it was suspending operations after the United States imposed sanctions on the carrier's parent company for allegedly helping Iran acquire weapons of mass destruction and missiles capable of delivering them.
The Shanghai-based Great Wall Airlines Co. said in a statement the suspension was immediate and that arrangements were being made to transfer booked cargo to other carriers.
The carrier, which was launched in June, is a joint venture between Singapore Airlines Ltd. and the Beijing-backed China Great Wall Industry Corp.
The carrier serves mainly cargo points on the mainland, but in June it launched a freight service between Shanghai and Amsterdam that ran six times a week. It said it planned to start services to Singapore and India.
