New Delhi: Cathay Pacific is launching a new cargo freighter service connecting Mumbai and Chennai. Originating from Hong Kong, the new service would connect Mumbai and then fly onward to Chennai before returning to Hong Kong.
The new se-rvice would be operated with a Boeing B747-200 aircraft and this is Cathay’s first direct freighter connecting India exclusively, said Tom Wright, the airline’s general manager for India, West Asia and Africa. The new service would operate twice a week.
The existing freighter connections of Cathay to India touch down at Delhi and Mumbai but fly onward to other countries. The thrice-a-week service to Mumbai connects onward to Dubai and Paris. The service to Delhi, also thrice a week, connects to London and Milan.
The Hong Kong-based airline is also looking for more bilateral rights to fly into key Indian cities. While Cathay now operates to Delhi and Mumbai, it is keen to connect to other cities like Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad.
